You never really realize what it takes to do your own web design until you try to do YOUR own web design! Some things tend to look really easy, but they really are not. And this is the reason you have customers and you have service people such as web designers to do the job for you. When it comes to website design, you really need to consider the pros and the cons as well as what experience, knowledge and input you will need in order to figure this out.

And it is okay if you cannot figure it out! Some people have the ability to learn a new language, or learn a new hobby like cooking or coin collecting. As a website designer (see scottheron.co.uk/web-design-edinburgh for additional information) this in turn means a range of things, please let me to clarify further.  While other people would be better served to let someone else do all the hard work for them. In order to create a beautiful and very attractive and working website, you need to look at a few core factors that you may or may not possess. First off, there are six main core attributes:

1- HTML knowledge: This will be the basis of any website any online. Some knowledge is necessary even when using a software program! So, if you do not know anything about html, simple codes, or where to get information from, well, you might consider hiring website designers.

2- Artistic Ability: Hey, some people have it and some people do not! If you think neon pink and lemon yellow look good together, this might not be the best time for you to ensue your artistic designs upon your poor customers. Web designers will usually have pretty good taste when it comes to not only colors, but designs as well!

3- Knowledge about software programs: As said above, some of these programs are very complex. If you cannot even figure out how to work Adobe Pictures for organizing your photos, then you will have a good bit of problems figuring out something like Adobe CS3! Yes, there are guides you can read and books you can buy, but how long would ALL that stuff take to read and "take in?" Probably more time than it would take a web designer.

4- Technical Experience: A web designer knows all about how a website should work, how it should connect, how long the load time should be, how to connect all the inner-workings of the site so that it runs smoothly for your customers.

5- Programming: There are SO many programming options available to us, you have everything from CGI and Java to Flash and A++ to F-Script and Haskell. And these languages are a lot like learning Japanese and French. You HAVE to know what they are saying and you have to know how to "speak" or write it out as well. This is not as easy as your ABCs.

6- Marketing & Promoting: While you could get someone separate to do your marketing for you, it always seems best to find a company that can handle all your problems such as content creation, marketing online, search engine optimization, search engine marketing, SERPs, etc.

Now as you can see, as we look a little deeper at what web designers need to accomplish and know in order to give you an amazing website design, you begin to see HOW much information you need to know! As previously mentioned, you could very well do all of this yourself. But, if you start anew and you know next to nothing about design, marketing, or building a website, it could take you years to learn all the things that website designers know!

Or you could take the shortcut. Hire a designer, spend some good money, and come out with an amazingly high-quality site worth every single penny you spent on it. Plus, when you have something that breaks on the site, if you built it yourself, you have to fix it yourself, know what is wrong, and have the knowledge to understand what went wrong. If you hire someone, they do all the maintenance for you!
