The Pros and Cons of Using Waxed Floss

There are various types of dental floss, but a very useful one is a wax coating. Waxed floss has many benefits over traditional floss. For instance, its slick coating can help users maneuver between teeth more easily. For some, this thicker floss isn’t ideal.

Waxed floss is essentially a thin nylon string with a wax coating. Some manufacturers even flavor the wax so that it is more pleasant to use. This waxed floss is generally sturdier than regular floss. For users who have small spaces, unusual angles, or sharp corners in their teeth, the extra strength is useful. It will be less likely to fray.

As such, many people who wear braces, where there are many metal fixtures that can snag a floss string, tend to favor this particular style of floss. The stiffer string also helps thread around braces and other dental fixtures more easily.

Another benefit of waxed floss is how smooth and slippery the texture is. Users whose teeth are tightly squished together will be able to see benefits. On the other hand, some users actually prefer unwaxed floss for an identical reason because without the wax coating, the string will be slightly thinner and easier to insert between the small gaps between teeth. Ultimately, the decision is based on personal preference and either option can get the job done.

However, there are those who do not like using dental floss at all. But, they still require the health benefits that it can provide. Fortunately, one can still floss using a water flosser. In order to decide on the best water flosser for their needs, see this article for more information.
